Forthcoming bar Jake’s Tavern will provide Shaw diners with a new source of specialty drinks and pub fare when the two-story establishment arrives later this spring.
Locals Kristen Ciuba and her husband Todd Ciuba, a co-owner of five-year-old Black Whiskey (1410 14th Street NW), are behind the new neighborhood destination expected to arrive right next to Dacha Beer Garden in mid-June.
Jake’s Tavern (1606 7th Street NW) will push lots of bar food, like burgers, sandwiches, wings, and other shareable apps, as well as beers on tap, wines by the glass or bottle, and cocktails.
Downstairs, the bar area will seat 20 and high top tables will fit 30, and there will also be a back patio. The upstairs space, projected to debut later this summer, will house another bar and event space.
The couple is shooting for a “relaxed, friendly vibe — no theme. A place to meet friends, make new ones, watch sports, etc.,” says Kristen Ciuba in an email. They are currently on the prowl for a head chef, she adds.
That block in Shaw is getting lots of headline action as of late; growing Balkan eatery Ambar is considering going into a space across the street next year.
