Homegrown chain Nicecream is opening its debut D.C. location at the Shay apartment building (1924 Eighth Street NW) in Shaw. The Northern Virginia-based sweets shop, which started in Arlington, spread to Alexandria, and also plans to branch out to Adams Morgan, signed leases for the two new locations in March.
According to a press release published by a Popville, Nicecream’s next futuristic storefront — the company uses liquid nitrogen to flash freeze its assorted flavors of ice cream — is now projected to open by June (before the end of the second quarter of 2018). Other hospitality ventures currently scheduled to move into the same complex include the new Korean barbecue restaurant being worked up by Duke’s Counter owner Daniel Kramer, as well as another outpost of local juice bar Turning Natural.
Local grocery chain Glen’s Garden Market is closing its satellite shop at the Shay on Monday, April 9 after two years in the neighborhood.
