Coming attractions
The award-winning dive bar Showtime Lounge is getting a sister bar called Neptune Room, according to a new liquor license just posted outside. The new bar will open at 5405 Georgia Avenue NW at a TBA date, Team Showtime confirmed to Eater. About 30 will fit inside, with a total of 96. The staff declined to add more details for now.
Brunch Town, USA
Some midmorning weekend meal news: The Smith’s U Street location (1314 U Street NW) is launching brunch this weekend. Expect to see dishes like Sicilian baked eggs and vanilla bean French toast, along with a full raw bar, plus pizzas and a crab cake benedict. Brunch hours are generous, like the portions will hopefully be — 10:30 am until 4 pm.
D.C. restaurant openings
POPVille reports that Park View is getting a new vegan restaurant. Signage is up at 3501 Georgia Avenue NW for Sweet Sosumba, which promises a Jamaican take on vegan eats.
Royal sweets
Turns out the history of British wedding cakes isn’t an aesthetically pretty one — fruitcakes have been the main attraction for centuries due to their baked-in preservatives. Luckily, the cake that will celebrate the union of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle sounds like it will be a feast for the eyes — made by American-born baker Claire Ptak, who favors decorating her cakes with live flowers. Here’s where to get in on the excitement day-of.
