Takoma’s Tex-Mex Rotisserie Chicken Joint Has Closed

A tipster alerted Popville that Taco-ma, the rotisserie chicken-serving spin-off of local chain Taqueria el Poblano, has closed. In its farewell note, Taco-ma thanked supporters for visiting the neighborhood restaurant over the past three years.

D.C. restaurant openings

New Columbia Heights reports that vegan cafe Sweet Sosumba is now open in Park View. The new arrival features vegan cuisine with Jamaican flavors Status: Certified open. 3501 Georgia Avenue NW; website.

Food media

Top Chef alum and D.C. restaurateur Spike Mendelsohn is the host of a new food-focused podcast dubbed “The Plate of the Union.” The show, which starts Thursday, June 28 and is produced in conjunction with the Food Policy Action group, plans to have on “fellow celebrity chefs, members of Congress and other influencers” to talk about dining issues.

Coming attractions

A new Ethiopian restaurant appears to be in the works in northwest. New Columbia Heights reports that the owner of the building that formerly housed Walter’s Sports Bar (3630 Georgia Avenue NW) says a restaurant is on the way, but the proprietor has not responded to inquiries about the new venture. Eater will update this story as more information becomes available.
