Hotel restaurant Zentan is going away at the end of the month — along with its unlimited kuidaore tasting menu — but the Kimpton team is promising that something new will take its place this winter. Meanwhile, Tenleytown loses a burger spot, Alexandria is down a local brewery, and a Capitol Hill watering hole calls it quits. Here’s a roundup of recent closings around the DMV.
ALEXANDRIA—Year-old family brewery Portner Brewhouse closed on June 1 after being unable to negotiate a new lease. “We did everything in our power to sustain the company for as long as possible,” the co-founders wrote in a farewell note shared via social media. “Whatever the future holds, keep us in your thoughts, drink really great beer, and hold family dear.”
CAPITOL HILL—Happy hour haven 201 Bar is closing on Friday, June 15 after over a decade of plying congressional staffers with cheap drinks. According to a farewell note posted by Popville, management is throwing an “appreciation party” starting at 4 p.m. on Thursday, June 14 to thank its regulars.
TENLEYTOWN—Local chain Burger Tap & Shake closed its nearly three-year-old Tenleytown location on June 3. The original outpost in Foggy Bottom remains open.
THOMAS CIRCLE—Nearly decade-old Japanese restaurant Zentan, which offers diners an all-you-can-eat tasting menu called kuidaore, is closing on Saturday, June 30. Kimpton hotel management is working on opening a new restaurant in the same space this winter.
