Acclaimed chef Peter Chang is adding to his fleet of restaurants with a new outpost in the D.C. suburbs.

Northern Virginia magazine reports that Mama Chang will open this winter at 3251 Old Lee Highway in Fairfax. Instead of the spicy Szechuan-style cooking that the two-time James Beard Award finalist is known for, his new Fairfax restaurant will focus on flavors from the Hubei province where Chang is from — all whipped up with in the form of homestyle Chinese cooking. The namesake of Mama Chang is Peter and his wife (and pastry chef) Lisa Chang’s mothers.

Peter Chang’s portfolio of restaurants includes his flagship Q in Bethesda, which opened in the spring 2017, a namesake restaurant in Arlington, and an outpost in Rosslyn. Northern Virginia also notes an additional restaurant under the Chang umbrella is headed for Baltimore in 2018.
