Pennsylvania’s fried chicken purveyor FreeByrd Chicken is feeding D.C. for the first time this summer by setting up shop at the recently shuttered Prospect sports bar.
The rotating venue (1214 U Street NW), which just housed a World Cup HQ pop-up with a burger menu from Lucky Buns, is now going the poultry route and serving FreeByrd’s signature buttermilk-brined fried chicken with homemade pickles and barbecue sauce made on-site.
The new setup opened Thursday, July 19 and will operate for two weeks. Here’s a look at the menu, which also includes sides like slaw and curly fries ($4) and chicken bowls ($9):

Ashburn’s Solace Brewing Co. is handling the beer, taking over the taps with a variety of their flagship brews and one exclusively brewed for the pop-up space. There’s also a happy hour from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. with half-priced beers, $4 frosé, $5 wines, and $6 summer-themed cocktails that integrate Three Olives Rosé, Suntory whisky, and Hornitos tequila.
FreeByrd Chicken was most recently cooped up at Crystal City’s pop-up venue The Stand for a month.
The brand, which plucks its product from Pennsylvania farms, is prepping to debut its first brick-and-mortar location later this summer inside Philadelphia’s enormous new food hall called Bourse Marketplace. Its popular “Philly Cheese-Chick” sandwich features slow-roasted pulled chicken, jalapeño beer cheese, and beer mustard braised onions on a hoagie roll.
Hours are 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday to Saturday and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday.
