A U street icon might soon get a street name of its very own. Ben’s Chili Bowl Way could be the new name of the 1200 block of U Street NW, DCist reports, and the D.C. Council is hoping to speed things up so that this could become official by the time the half smoke restaurant hits its 60th anniversary.

The Ali Family is hosting an all-day shindig to celebrate that huge anniversary on August 22, starting with a press anniversary at 10:30 a.m., moving onto a street festival from noon to 4 p.m., and an evening fundraiser gala at the Lincoln Theatre. The party’s supposed to include an unveiling of signage designating the block as “Ben’s Chili Bowl Way,” so there’s a push for ”emergency legislation” to get everything in place in time for the big day in August.
