Old Town could be one step closer to getting a cat cafe. Northern Virginia magazine reports that cat cafe and wine bar Mount Purrnon just raised $25,500 on Kickstarter and owner Kristin Cowan is in talks to find real estate near King Street.
Back in 2015, another cat lover wanted to open a cat cafe in Alexandria called pHinicky pHeline, but Mount Purrnon would reportedly be Northern Virginia’s first cat cafe. Georgetown’s Crumbs & Whiskers opened in 2015 as D.C.’s first cat cafe.
Cowan hopes that her Old Town Alexandria cat cafe will be outfitted with a wine bar and a coffee bar stocked with pastries, next to adjoining room where visitors can commune with cats. As for that punny name, Cowan told Northern Virginia: “I love the old feel and history of Old Town Alexandria...There are so many things to do there, but it still has a small-town vibe. I thought it would be a good location to tie in the history.”
