Shaw is down an Ethiopian restaurant. Etete, a long-running occupant of 1942 9th Street NW, just closed.
PoPville spotted signage on the door of the restaurant, and Etete’s website reads:
It’s with a bittersweet ending that we have decided to close Etete.
We are eternally grateful to those that have graced our tables over the many years, with loyal support that will forever be remembered.
Etete underwent a lengthy renovation in 2017 that included modernizing the space and menu. It reportedly cost $500,000, according to the Washington Post, and debuted refined small plates inspired by the flavors of Ethiopian cuisine.
The restaurant will be replaced by 1942DC, a new two-story lounge and events space. Eater reached out to the owners of Etete for more information and this post will be updated if necessary.
