DC Central Kitchen’s Capital Food Fight Enlists Tom Colicchio and Ryan Zimmerman

Plus, testimony at next week’s Initiative 77 Repeal Hearing could stretch on for more than eight hours

DC Central Kitchen’s charitable event Capital Food Fight is moving to the Anthem for its 15th anniversary. José Andrés, and Spike Mendelsohn will serve as celebrity hosts, and Top Chef’s Tom Colicchio and Washington Nationals’ Ryan Zimmerman are signed on as judges, with more judges to be announced.

The live culinary battle will feature local chefs Kyle Bailey (The Salt Line), Autumn Cline (Rappahannock Oyster Company), Alex McCoy (Lucky Buns), and Kevin Tien (Himitsu) who will prepare dishes based on secret ingredients.

Tickets on sale now at, and all event proceeds benefit DC Central Kitchen.

Initiative 77 news

140 people are signed up to testify for next Monday’s hearing on the bill repealing Initiative 77, according to the Washington City Paper, and it’s anticipated to stretch on for more than eight hours as bar and restaurant employees and others testify for three minutes each.


Work could begin this month on redeveloping the former Town Danceboutique site in Shaw, according to UrbanTurf.

The new America Eats Tavern in Georgetown just introduced a “Social Hour” menu this week with snacks like oysters, barbecue chicken wings, hush puppies, and skillet cornbread. A selection of specially-priced draft beer, wine, and cocktails including the B&W (whiskey, berries, lime) is also available. That menu will be available on the patio and at the bar from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.
