Now Open
The new Busboys and Poets Mt. Vernon Triangle location opens today, after shutting down and moving approximately 361 feet to avoid a rent hike from its longtime landlord at 1025 5th Street NW. This 450 K St NW location will host an open house this morning, offering free continental breakfast, Busboys and Poets “New Columbia” coffee, and a tour of its new home from 7 a.m. until 11 a.m.
The newest location of the social justice-oriented local chain includes a mural of global women leaders like Angela Davis, Frida Kahlo, and Zora Neale Hurston. This space includes a bookstore at its entrance, a bar with 20 draft lines honing in on local brewers, and two private events spaces.
Coming attractions
Popville spots signage for the new Boqueria location in Penn Quarter. The restaurant is slated to open in late fall with “extensive” outdoor seating and interiors by Succotash designers Studio 3877.
Redevelopments
UrbanTurf shares a rendering of the high-rise redevelopment of the La Madeleine restaurant across the street from Bethesda Metro station. The plan is for a 225 foot-tall, 24-story tower with up to 200 residential units to sit on top of the French restaurant.
Chef lunch boxes
What’s in the lunch boxes of D.C. kids whose parents cook at some of the hottest restaurants in town? Washingtonian asks the chefs at Cork Wine Bar & Market, Red Hen, Bayou Bakery, Bastille Brasserie, Kaliwa and more to share mockups of the Nocciolata-and-fig-preserves sandwiches and homemade Lunchables they send with their kids to school.
