Hank’s Cocktail Bar will soon raise its circular purple banner decorated with a drawing of a martini glass at a new home in Dupont Circle. Chef Jamie Leeds’s restaurant group announced today that the former Petworth bar will open in the second-floor space above Hank’s Oyster Bar on Q Street NW on Wednesday, February 20.
The move represents a third life in four years for the cocktail bar, part of a Hank’s umbrella that includes four oyster bars and one pasta bar. Hank’s Cocktail bar opened as the Twisted Horn on Upshur Street NW in January 2016, rebranded to reflect its place in the JL Restaurant Group later that year, and operated in Petworth until last December, when it decamped from its space in a former church building as part of a devastating run of closures for the neighborhood.
At the reborn cocktail bar in Dupont, bar program manager Hunter Douglas will oversee a menu that includes more than 40 drinks across three categories: reinvented classics, “beertails,” and a section that includes large-format drinks and shooters.
Some of the highlights include a hot green tea for two (or three) spiked with Tanqueray No. 10 citrus gin and a liquid version of a Thai salad, called Yam Thale, that mixes peanut-infused gin, cucumber, lime, ginger, chile, fish sauce, and cilantro-peanut oil. Happy hour will run Tuesday through Friday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Hank’s Cocktail Bar will serve food from the flagship oyster bar downstairs — you can’t go wrong with the lobster roll — and will also have exclusive items such as Eastern Shore crab dip, Old Bay fries, and a kosher all-beef hotdog with onion rings.
For the past few weeks, Hank’s has been using its social media accounts to preview pieces of the Petworth space that will make their way over to Dupont.
