It turns out that Shaw really loves breakfast sandwiches. Responding to popular demand, Mason Dixie Biscuit Co. will start serving all-day breakfast today at its colorful diner at 1819 Seventh Street NW.
Known for bacon, egg, and cheese biscuits, the brand has been all over the District, first drawing lines at Union Market, then opening and closing a drive-thru in Northeast, then popping up in Navy Yard before moving to Shaw in October.
”Honestly, since we were in Union Market, people have really gravitated to breakfast,” Mason Dixie Biscuit Co. CEO Ayeshah Abuelhiga told Eater.
She’s streamlined the menu so that breakfast sandwiches and sausage gravy platters with biscuits and eggs are available all day long. Customers can add coffee and hash browns to a breakfast sandwich order for $2.99.
Mason Dixie is hoping that breakfast sandwiches will be a hit for a hangover cure, not just on the weekends. “There are tons and tons of bars in the neighborhood,” Abuelhiga says of Shaw. “People are constantly craving good sop-up alcohol food, and nothing does that like a biscuit.”
The revamped menu also has more chicken sandwich options. Abuelhiga says Mason Dixie was able to renegotiate a deal with chicken supplier Coleman to drive down prices.
Also new: wedge fries and dessert biscuit sandwiches, including chocolate hazelnut banana, strawberry shortcake, and peanut butter and jam.
