A new restaurant and bar opened last week inside the Park View space that used to house Walters Sports Bar, bringing the neighborhood a place to sip CBD-infused cocktails and knock back mussels while D.C. native Marvin Gaye croons in the background.
Mr. Braxton started welcoming customers at 3642 Georgia Avenue NW last Thursday, adding an American bistro to a block that includes the Looking Glass Lounge, the recently opened Tsehay Ethiopian, and DC Reynolds.
DCist reports that Mr. Braxton will serve racks of lamb, watermelon salad, several styles of mussels, hemp-encrusted salmon, and creme brulee. Andra “AJ” Johnson, the mixologist who helped organize DMV Black Restaurant Week, reportedly designed a bar program that includes a strawberry-habanero margarita and a Manhattan brightened by fino sherry.
Owner Booker Parchment filled the space with kitsch including a cape buffalo skull and a 1940s chamber stove. According to DCist, bartenders control a turntable and have access to a collection of vinyl that includes cuts from Gaye, the Doobie Brothers, Billy Joel, and Tina Turner.
Mr. Braxton will also add another outdoor drinking venue to a neighborhood that’s full of them. Unlike Midlands beer garden, No Kisses, or the brand new Hook Hall, Mr. Braxton has a hypnotic mural that flows from the ground to the wall.
Walters, meanwhile, has relocated to a new location in Navy Yard that features pour-your-own beer taps.
