Pete’s, a local pizzeria that’s been serving New Haven-style pies in D.C. for a decade, has drastically downsized its local footprint in the past year and a half — going from four restaurants to just one.
The latest casualty is its 8-year-old Clarendon address, which closed over the weekend at 3024 Wilson Boulevard, an employee confirms. The sole remaining Pete’s location in Friendship Heights (4940 Wisconsin Avenue NW) will keep operating as usual, she adds.
The homegrown restaurant, known for its crispy pizzas and beer deals, started shedding locations in the spring of 2018, when its Columbia Heights shop folded to make way for a new 24-hour Wawa. A downtown Silver Spring location closed last fall.
The employee did not provide reasoning behind the latest closure in Clarendon.
The neighborhood got a new pie option this spring with the arrival of Stone Hot Pizza (3217 Washington Boulevard), serving one-topping deals at lunch alongside panini and sandwiches.
