Lao bar Hanumanh is open again in Shaw, recovering from early infrastructure problems behind the scenes that temporarily shut down the Thip Khao offshoot for longer than it was operational in the first place.
Washingtonian reported the news last night, and the bar announced on its Instagram page this morning that it’s back to its regular schedule (closed Tuesdays) at 1604 Seventh Street Northwest.
Given its ties to chefs Seng Luangrath and Bobby Pradachith, Hanumanh was a hotly anticipated project when it opened its doors in May. Cocktails from minibar alum Al Thompson, now bar director at Thip Khao, added to the excitement.
A short menu of bar bites was always intended to rotate frequently. Early standouts included a red crab curry, with lychee and crispy banana blossoms, and tapioca dumplings filled with a palm sugar caramel holding together ground pork, peanuts, and salted radish. Thompson makes a sweet, creamy Hanumanh cocktail with banana-infused Lao whiskey.
In August, the bar went dark and started a short, pop-up residency at the Destination Wedding space underneath Doi Moi.
