Diners who visit FishScale for a salmon burger or Roaming Rooster for a chicken sandwich this week could win a prize pack worth hundreds of dollars.

This month marks the debut of the DC Black-Owned Restaurant Sweepstakes, an initiative organized by Feed the Malik blogger Anela Malik, Shaw restaurant HalfSmoke, and startup Raise Nation LLC to drive business to Black-owned restaurants in the District.

“I wanted to come up with a fun way to unite the community with Black-owned restaurants that continue to struggle through this pandemic,” says HalfSmoke sales and events manager Julie André, in a statement.

All diners have to do to enter the contest is scan the DC Black-Owned Restaurant Sweepstakes QR code located at the register of participating establishments and then fill out an online submission form. Prize packages range from a $50 FishScale gift card to a bundle worth $400, including a jersey from Washington Wizards star Bradley Beal. Multiple entries are permitted, and submissions will be accepted through Sunday, August 16, at 11:59 p.m.

Here are the nine restaurants that are participating in the DC Black-Owned Restaurant Sweepstakes:

FishScale

This Shaw spot serves burgers and sandwiches featuring sustainably caught, wild fish — think salmon sockeye burgers or a “Chesapeake cheesesteak” with Maryland blue catfish and provolone. 637 Florida Avenue NW

The Kitchen Jerk

The “gourmet Caribbean soul-food” spot offers wings, pizza, pasta, tacos, and more. 703 Edgewood Street NE

DCity Smokehouse

This barbecue favorite on Florida and North Capitol Streets is a go-to for brisket, ribs, wings, and half-smokes, with sides like coleslaw and “mac and jack” cheese. 203 Florida Avenue NW.

Roaming Rooster

At Roaming Rooster, choose a heat level for your fried chicken sandwich, and then decide whether the sandwich should be done up Buffalo style, Nashville hot style, or with honey butter. 3176 Bladensburg Road NE

HalfSmoke

Find everything from sausages to fancy milkshakes at HalfSmoke, which recently launched a breakfast sandwich pop-up with takeout called Butter Me Up. 651 Florida Avenue NW

Mr. Smith’s of Georgetown

The classic saloon and piano bar serves crowd-pleasers like nachos, fried calamari, burgers, sandwiches, and salads. 3205 K Street NW

Pleasant Pops

The Adams Morgan cafe is known for its strawberry ginger lemonade and Mexican chocolate popsicles, but it serves coffee and breakfast and lunch items like avocado toast and burrito bowls. 1781 Florida Avenue NW

Ethiopic

The long-running Ethiopian sit-down spot now offers online ordering of entrees like beef tibs and vegetarian samplers. 401 H Street NE

Souk

This bakery and cafe on Barracks Row is a source for bread, baked goods, pastries and Vigilante coffee. 705 8th Street SE
