12 Next-Level Veggie Burgers Around D.C.

Where to indulge while staying meat-free

View as Map

Vegetarian burgers have come along way from the days of frozen plant patties and sloppy mixtures of black beans and grains. They often remain afterthoughts for the omnivores of the world, but thanks to advances in food science, diners can enjoy a meatless patty that closely mimics the texture, taste, and even the juicy mess of a ground beef burger.

Restaurants in D.C. have gradually begun to adopt popular meat substitutes, like those from Beyond Meat and Impossible Foods. And opting for these alternatives can still leave room for indulging, as many kitchens still offer them up with cheese, avocado, fried eggs, and other classic toppings.

Here are a dozen locations in and around D.C. to find veggie burgers that would make any meat eater do a double take.
