Bite into the ubiquitous green dish here

Often used as a (bad) example of millennial indulgence, avocado toast remains popular in Washington. Part of the shade stems from the simplicity of a dish with a trendy status that drives up the price. It’s often a piece of toasted bread topped with sliced or smashed avocado and perhaps a drizzle of salt and olive oil. Local restaurants, coffee shops, and breakfast spots are all putting their personal stamps on it, though.

Brunch is an easy meal to satisfy a toast craving, with many kitchens topping their bread with a soft egg and fresh herbs. Other spots, like The Smith and Flower Child, offer avocado toast all day long. Stay tuned for seasonal takes on the classic when Zumo opens in the La Cosecha market next year.

Here are 13 restaurants to get an avocado toast fix, ranging from straightforward to over-the-top versions.
