Where to Drink Rare Irish Whiskey in D.C.

These harder-to-find Irish whiskeys are available in D.C.

View as Map

Today's holiday will have some folks drinking Guinness. But for the brown liquor crowd, St. Patrick's Day is a good excuse to embrace Irish whiskey — and there are plenty of options beyond the usual standards.

Some bars go to great lengths to get their hands on exclusive whiskeys. For instance, The Dubliner on Capitol Hill serves Dubliner Irish Whiskey, made by First Ireland Spirits. It's a whiskey made just for the D.C. bar, and specially aged in bourbon casks for upwards of three years, making it slightly darker and sweeter than the traditional stuff. Right now, its behind the bar and on the shelf at Schneider's of Capitol Hill for those looking for a retail bottle.

Really, aficionados need not look any further than a few D.C. bars for premium bottles of Irish whiskey. And while the spirit is particularly popular during St. Patrick's Day, many places offer year-round varieties for the harder-to-find labels.
