The Burger Heatmap: New D.C. Burgers To Eat Now

New restaurants, new burgers

Whether they come from new burger joints, expanding chains or restaurant chefs just stretching their burger-making muscles, plenty of new burger varieties are popping up around town. Some are topped with distinctive toppings like pimento cheese, others keep it simple.

It's been six months since Eater updated its Burger Heatmap, so the map is fresh off a complete reset from the old version. This map represents a mix of new burger chains (like Tasty Burger and BurgerFi), burger offerings at new restaurants (from Duke's Counter to Slim's Diner), and particularly newsworthy burger additions to existing restaurant menus (including Shouk's new veggie burger). Independent and local restaurants are favored over out-of-town chains here, though a few notable examples of the latter made the cut. Vegetarians, take note — Eater will highlight more new veggie burgers later this month. More interested in overall great burgers in D.C.? Check out our map of local essentials.

Find several burger varieties on this new addition to Pike & Rose. Since it's Neighborhood Restaurant Group, Owen's benefits from the use of Red Apron products, including its new sausage burger. But there's a vegan burger on the menu as well, along with more classic offerings.

Proper 21

It's probably not surprising D.C.'s newest sports bar has a burger. It's topped with white cheddar, bacon, and caramelized onions right now. There's a salmon burger here, too.

Vegans are chatting about this new menu addition at Shouk. The Shouk Burger is made from chickpeas, black beans, lentils, oats, flax seed, cauliflower, mushrooms, beets, red onion, parsley, and scallions, as well as the restaurant's seasonings.
