Get cozy

It's getting to be that time of year again — the time of year when the leaves start to change, the air picks up a certain chill and the word "cozy" begins to sound appealing. It's also the time of year when lists of places to do seasonal activities like go apple picking or drink hot chocolate or curl up by a fireplace emerge — this map is no exception.

Here, specifically, are a number of new D.C. establishments, opened within the past six to twelve months, that boast fireplaces. Spots range from HalfSmoke, a trendy yet casual new Shaw establishment, to the recently Michelin-starred Kinship. There's even one new fireplace to be found out in Purcellville, should fall include a trip to Loudon County for pumpkins and gourds. So as the weather gets cooler, here are nine new fireplaces to check out around the District and surrounding areas. Looking for something classic? Here are some other older restaurant fireplaces to consider.

Eater will update this map periodically with any new fireplace additions this fall and winter: send them to dc@eater.com.

Bar à Vin

Visitors to this Chez Billy Sud-adjacent wine bar in Georgetown, which opened in March, will find “rustic” touches like a wood burning fireplace. It pairs well with French wine.

Bonfire

It’s all about the fire at this new Farragut North-adjacent restaurant. Think s’mores, campfire skillets and smoky cocktails. So it should come as no surprise that Bonfire, which opened in May, has a fireplace too.

HalfSmoke

Shaw-based HalfSmoke may be brand new, but it promises multiple fireplaces alongside the requisite gourmet hotdogs and funnel cakes. Cozy indeed.

Kinship

Last week, Eric Ziebold’s Kinship was among the D.C. restaurants awarded a star in the first round of the city’s Michelin guide. But for the fireplace enthusiast that’s not the only reason to pay it a visit — find the flames in the establishment’s bar and lounge area.

Métier, housed in the same building at Kinship, is Eric Ziebold’s fancy (there's even a dress code), tasting menu-only spot. But should one don a dinner jacket for a meal here, there’s a fireplace to be found as a reward.

Pennsylvania 6 DC

This McPherson square restaurant, which opened a year ago, has a fireplace in its “Parlor” lounge area — but it's a faux one, so don't get too excited.

Shaw's Tavern

No, Shaw’s Tavern isn’t new in itself. But the two upstairs fireplaces are — they were added about a year ago when the restaurant renovated the upstairs dining room.

Purcellville might be a bit of a hike. But those who find themselves in the neighborhood can enjoy craft beers and small plates alongside one of two wood burning fireplace at the West End Wine Bar & Pub. Both fireplaces are original to the 101 year-old house that now serves as the West End.
