Sometimes — whether it be a quick lunch, a meal on-the-go, or simply to satisfy a craving — a sandwich is truly necessary. D.C. restaurants have been taking sandwiches out of familiar, turkey club territory for years. And now's a great time to sample some of the newest sandwich offerings Washington has on local menus.

Eater presents the sandwich heatmap, a mix of brand-new sandwiches, suddenly-popular offerings (looking at you, Bub & Pop's) and ever-popular meals-between-bread that can be found at new locations.
