There was a time not long ago when vegans in the D.C. area were stuck with a meager side salad as their main course. Today, restaurants are increasingly embracing all-plant meals, from Beyond Meat burgers and dairy-free soft serve to rutabaga fondue and Buffalo cauliflower. Additions to the latest update of this list include “fish and chips” at SpacyCloud, pesto pizzas at Epicure Cafe, beet-based burgers at Bubbie’s, vegan tasting menus at Nara-Ya and Oyster Oyster, and jackfruit biryani at Punjab Grill.
D.C. allows indoor dining at 25 percent capacity, and alcohol consumption is allowed until midnight. Many restaurants offer outdoor seating, but this should not be taken as endorsement for dining out, as there are still safety concerns.
