President Obama's love of burgers is well-documented. So for this map, let's turn to the restaurants in the Washington area that Michelle Obama has visited over her past six years in Washington. MObama has a knack for picking both hot new restaurants and classic places, particularly those with a farm-to-table bent. This year, she's visited critical darling Rose's Luxury and Georgetown newcomer Chez Billy Sud (twice).
And the "Obama bump" matters. People want to eat where the First Lady eats. "The guests that were coming down here [last time the First Lady visited] came to investigate personally: 'Where did she sit? What did she eat? Who was she with? What was she wearing?' The 'Where did she sit and can I please sit in the same seat' was a request we had for weeks to come," Eatonville general manager Michael Woods told Eater DC back in 2011.
Here are more than 40 restaurants that Michelle Obama's dined at over the years, sourced through Eater's archives, from fine dining establishments like Komi and Fiola Mare to Sticky Rice, Red Robin and Mom's Apple Pie Company. Also noted: the First Lady's visited dearly departed establishments like Pinkberry in Dupont Circle and Georgetown's legendary Citronelle. This map focuses on confirmed reports, though also includes a few unconfirmed-but-likely sightings; Eater updated it today to include her most recent restaurant visit. —Missy Frederick and Adele Chapin
