Pimento cheese is a beloved part of Southern cuisine. It usually features a sharp cheddar or processed cheese like American or Velveeta combined with mayonnaise, pimentos, salt, and pepper. It's also not uncommon to spice it with Worcestershire sauce, Tabasco, or jalapeños.

Though pimento cheese is commonly served as a spread on crackers or chips, it's making its way on to sandwiches and burgers around town. It's easy to find pimento cheese in one of the many new Southern restaurants cropping up around D.C.

As Jackie's in Silver Spring closes at the end of the month, there isn't much time left to enjoy one of the area's original options — Elvis sliders. But there's always hope they'll pop up on the menu at one of owner Jackie Greenbaum's other restaurants.

If not, there are certainly plenty of other places to enjoy a pimento cheese burger. Here are 15 local spots with the spread on the menu.
