Margaritas aren't exactly hard to find in D.C. — walk into a Mexican restaurant, night club, or even a piano bar and chances are, a margarita will be available.
At its most simple, the margarita combines tequila, triple sec, and lime. People generally have strong feelings about whether they're best served shaken on the rocks or blended and frozen. A giant margarita glass is the traditional vessel, but the drink is now served in everything from pint, wine, and even martini glasses.
Here are 20 places where margaritas stand above the crowd, either for having a loyal following, being new on the scene or just being especially well-made. D.C. also offers a whole range of flavors. There's plenty of options for the most common mango and strawberry, but now hibiscus, prickly pear, and even blood orange jalapeno can be found. Enjoy them on Cinco de Mayo and beyond.
